Discover What Energises You: Clues to Your Strengths

Oct 16, 2024
Rebecca Fry presenting a leadership workshop, inspiring high-achievers to discover and embrace their strengths.

Over the past few weeks, I've had the opportunity to lead workshops, deliver keynote presentations, and connect with high-achievers. Each time I walk away from these experiences, I feel completely energised. It's a powerful reminder of how important it is to pay attention to what brings us energy.

For me, leading these sessions and seeing the growth in others are clues to my strengths. These aren’t just things I’m good at, but activities that truly make me come alive. Recognising these as clues to my strengths of Communication and Maximiser has helped me focus on what leaves me feeling recharged.

Pay Attention to Your Energy Levels

We all have those moments — whether we’re aware of them or not — when we feel that spark of energy. You know the feeling: the kind of task or interaction that leaves you more energised than before, even if it was challenging or intense. These are powerful clues to your strengths. The things that light you up and bring you energy are likely aligned with your natural talents.

It’s easy to get caught up in daily routines and responsibilities without paying attention to what energises us. But reflecting on those moments can give us valuable insights. Whether it’s problem-solving, mentoring, or creative thinking, the things that bring you energy are pointing to areas where you thrive.

How to Recognise Your Strengths

Here are a few ways to start identifying the things that energise you:

  1. Reflect on Recent Activities: Look back at the past few weeks and think about the moments where you felt most energised or fulfilled. What were you doing? Who were you with? These are often the moments when your strengths were at play.

  2. Notice What Drains You: On the flip side, pay attention to the tasks that leave you feeling drained or disengaged. While we all have to do these from time to time, the key is to recognise when they dominate your time, and find ways to balance them with energising activities.

  3. Ask for Feedback: Sometimes, others can see our strengths more clearly than we can. Ask trusted colleagues or friends what they see as your biggest contributions. Often, their feedback can shine a light on your strengths from an outside perspective.

The Power of Tapping into Your Strengths

When we lean into our strengths, we don’t just feel more capable — we feel energised and motivated to take on more. These are the moments where we operate in our zone of genius, creating the most impact for ourselves and those around us. By harnessing our strengths, we can avoid burnout and build a sustainable way of achieving success.

So, I encourage you to take a moment and reflect: What’s been lighting you up lately? These moments are clues to your strengths, waiting for you to embrace and build on them.
